For the last two years, the internet has been absolutely convinced that Rockstar was going to use GTA 6 to force a $100 or even $150 “Quad-A” standard base price on the gaming industry. People were literally rearranging their budgets for it.

Well, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick, just did an interview that finally put those rumors to rest. Here is the actual breakdown of what you are going to be paying when the game drops on November 19.
The Base Price: $70 to $80
Zelnick didn’t put out an official press release with a price tag, but he dropped a massive, undeniable hint during a discussion about in-game monetization. He stated that it would be “unfair” to force interstitial ads (mid-game commercials) into a premium game that someone already paid “70 or 80 bucks for.”
Industry analysts immediately connected the dots. The base game is almost certainly going to land at the standard $79.99 mark for current-gen consoles. Yes, 80 bucks is still a lot of money for a single video game, but it is a massive relief compared to the apocalyptic price rumors we were dealing with last year.
The “No Ads” Promise
This is the hidden win in Zelnick’s quote. He officially confirmed that GTA 6 console players will not have forced commercial breaks interrupting their gameplay. (The fact that we even have to worry about mid-game TV commercials in our video games in 2026 is terrifying, but at least Rockstar is sparing us for now).
The Catch (Because there’s always a catch)
While the standard edition will sit around $80, do not think Rockstar isn’t going to milk this release for all it’s worth.
The Collector’s Editions: Expect the Deluxe and Collector’s tiers to easily break the $150 to $200 barrier. They will probably throw in a physical map of Leonida, a steelbook, and a few exclusive digital cars for whatever the new version of GTA Online is, and millions of people will instantly buy it.
PC Players are still waiting: Just like GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, the November launch is PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S only. If you are on PC, history dictates you will be waiting until late 2027 to play it.
My verdict: $80 for a game you are probably going to play for the next ten years is a totally fair trade.
Since the game is skipping PC at launch, are you going to need me to look up any current deals on PS5 or Xbox Series X consoles, or do you already have the hardware ready to go?
