If you’ve been tracking the humanoid robot space lately, you’ve definitely noticed a massive shift. Since early 2026, the domestic market has hit a historic price inflection point. Machines that used to carry six-figure price tags are suddenly rolling into mainstream buyers’ carts, with some mass-production models already cracking the 10,000 yuan barrier.
Take Songyan Dynamics’ new “Bumi (Xiaobumi).” Priced right at 9,998 yuan, it’s officially the industry’s first consumer-grade bot to hit the sub-10k bracket. Standing roughly 94cm tall and weighing just 12kg, it boasts at least 21 degrees of freedom. It’s clearly wired for everyday home life—think tutoring kids, keeping seniors company, or just hanging out.

Scrolled through major e-commerce platforms on June 4th, and thanks to regional government subsidies, the final checkout price dips even lower to roughly 9,418 yuan. Store reps told us that exact settlement amounts vary based on your local subsidy policy, so you’ll see the live price right when you tap pay.
So how did they actually pull off a sub-10k price tag? Songyan’s founder and chairman, Jiang Zheyuan, laid out the playbook honestly. First, they leaned heavily on lightweight composite materials to slash costs without gutting durability. Second, keeping the overall unit light naturally trims expenses. Third, their self-research ratio is sky-high—controllers, motor systems, the whole nine yards are built in-house, which dramatically cuts procurement bills. And fourth, they made a conscious call to cap gross margins instead of chasing fat markups.
He put it bluntly: “If an industry clings to sky-high profit margins forever, it’s unhealthy. When everyone pushes prices down, it actually accelerates adoption and helps everyday people wrap their heads around what these bots can really do. This downward trend is inevitable. Every humanoid robot company will eventually settle into a sustainable margin and a fair price point.”
Even industry giants aren’t immune. Unitree Robotics is steadily lowering its entry-level threshold. Back in late April, they officially dropped their two-armed R1 series starting at 26,900 yuan—the cheapest bot they’ve publicly listed yet. Compare that to their flagship H2 hovering around 300,000 yuan, or the mid-range G1 base model kicking off at 85,000 yuan.

The numbers don’t lie. Unitree’s own prospectus shows their average unit price plummeted from 593,400 yuan in 2023 to 260,700 yuan in 2024, and bottomed out at 167,600 yuan by Q3 2025. That’s over 400,000 yuan shaved off in just a year and a bit. Manufacturing costs followed the same slide, dropping from 73,200 yuan in ’23 down to 62,200 yuan in late ’25.
Honestly, the rental market saw this price crash coming way before retail did. After Unitree bots took the stage at the 2025 Spring Festival Gala, demand absolutely exploded. Suddenly, every trade show, corporate gig, and festival wanted one. Sellers popped up overnight across shopping apps and resale platforms. Some rental operators confessed that just flipping rented Unitree units during peak season netted them up to 30,000 yuan a day. Seriously lucrative back then.
Flip ahead to late 2025, and those headline-grabbing rates vanished. Multiple insiders confirmed rental prices tanked hard, falling from that 30k daily high down to roughly 3,000 yuan. On average, we’re looking at just one-tenth of the original cost. Some four-legged robot dogs were even going for as low as 339 yuan a day.
The secondary market got hit just as hard. Reports say engineering prototypes that needed near-million-yuan deposits and long waitlists a year ago are now being dumped online in bulk. Some sellers are literally offloading them for 50,000 yuan per cartload.
What’s actually driving this price freefall? China’s fully mature, localized supply chain. Heavy hitters like gearboxes and servo motors, which once ate up 70% of a bot’s BOM cost, are now domestically produced. Plus, humanoid bots are heavily borrowing parts from the EV and smartphone ecosystems. Motors, power batteries, vision sensors—they’re just repurposing proven auto and phone components instead of building fabs from scratch. Add mass production scaling on top of that, and fixed costs get spread thin fast.
Dropping prices is obviously a huge win for getting these robots into homes, but let’s keep it real: today’s budget models still have plenty of growing pains. Battery life is still short, payload capacity is pretty light, and navigating messy, unstructured environments is far from flawless. Until manufacturers figure out exactly what these bots can actually do for the average person beyond party tricks, widespread adoption will stall.
Most experts agree that heavy industry will be where humanoid bots truly come of age first. Think car manufacturing plants, logistics sorting hubs, and hazardous inspection sites where humans shouldn’t go anyway.
The momentum is undeniable. GGII data shows China shipped 14,400 humanoid units in 2025, and projections for 2026 are staggering—anywhere from 100,000 to 200,000 units. Buyers are hungry, and tech companies are scrambling to build a piece of the pie.
Just recently, Li Ke, Executive VP at BYD, didn’t mince words in a podcast interview: “We’re actively developing our own humanoid robot too. Competition comes down to who masters manufacturing, software, and hardware best. Our automotive AI overlaps heavily with robotics tech. Once we feel they’re ready for living rooms, we’ll push them straight through our existing dealership network.”
She also hinted that BYD could build an open ecosystem. Whether BYD builds them solo or partners with other brands, the goal is to create a flexible platform that scales.
Here’s the bottom line: 2026 is officially the tipping point where we’re moving past just “can we build it?” to “can we afford it?” With domestic supply chains tightening up and capital flooding in, humanoid robots are rapidly following the exact same explosive growth path that smartphones and EVs paved years ago.
For companies, the real winners will be those who nail cost control while proving their business model in niche, real-world scenarios. But for everyday folks? Having your own personal humanoid buddy doing chores or keeping you company might actually be closer than we think.
