If you track the tech hardware space, you already know Apple sits at the center of China’s manufacturing ecosystem—and it’s absolutely showing up for the 2026 China International Supply Chain Expo (Chain Expo). This year, though, the roster feels different: AAC Technologies, Sunny Optical, and Corun are stepping forward as a joint trio of Chinese suppliers.
Apple swaps out its exhibitors and featured tech every single year, but lately, the conversation has revolved heavily around smart manufacturing and real-world AI deployments.
AAC’s partnership with Apple traces back to 2009, pushing past 8.6 billion cumulative units shipped. Their booth gave attendees a close look at a magnetic levitation automated line dedicated to assembling and testing haptic engines.
Pan Zhengmin, founder and CEO of AAC, laid it out for us: to guarantee that every haptic engine feels crisp and consistent, they’re locking assembly tolerances under 15 microns. That’s roughly a quarter of a human hair’s width.

He also highlighted that the line now runs on an AI analytics dashboard. It tracks performance metrics in real time, and the moment it catches a microscopic deviation, the system pinpoints the issue and applies closed-loop corrections on the fly. That effectively wipes out the blind spots we used to see in traditional manufacturing.

Then there’s Sunny Optical. Since kicking off lens R&D with Apple in 2019, their footprint has expanded to cover imaging lenses for iPhones and iPads, sensor modules, and even MacBook camera assemblies. CEO Wang Wenjie was straightforward about it: Apple’s relentless pursuit of optical perfection forced them to completely overhaul their entire workflow—from initial design and craftsmanship right down to inspection protocols.
Over at their station, they rolled out a tiny MacBook front-camera module paired with a custom AI visual inspection rig. Holding the component, Wang explained that in something this intricate, a single flawed solder joint or a frayed gold wire can tank overall performance.

The gear they demoed runs deep learning models capable of catching micron-level defects before they slip through, plus it actually teaches itself how to improve over time. Wang added that leveraging big data for direct AI-driven chip alignment boosted throughput by over 15%. It also monitors workers’ SOPs live, flagging deviations instantly to cut down on human error and scrap material.
Corun, which has been riding shotgun with Apple for more than 13 years, brought a fully automated Apple Watch crown assembly line to show how they crack the code on tight-space, zero-damage precision fitting.
Corun Group Chairman Duan Huiqing walked us through the trickiest parts. To keep water and dust out, they have to apply a flawlessly even oil coating to microscopic O-rings—which led to their patented pneumatic ring-spraying tech. On top of that, engineers built an adaptive flexible floating screwdriver bit that locks tiny crowns into place with exact torque, leaving absolutely zero scratches behind.

Duan shared that Corun isn’t just rolling AI out on factory floors; they’ve also cooked up internal AI assistant tools. Now, engineers can just type a quick prompt and nail down structural component selections in minutes instead of spending hours digging through catalogs. Plus, the teamtapped AI to crunch historical data from over two million fixtures and 10,000+ machines, continuously refining part machining processes.
“Streamlining processes means fewer reworks, less raw material waste, and zero throwing resources at dead ends.” Duan made sure to stress,AI and automation aren’t here to push people aside. They’re meant to free workers from mindless repetition so they can focus on engineering analysis, process upgrades, and hands-on innovation management. When efficiency climbs like that, the company wins, and staff finally get room to grow into roles that actually challenge them.
It’s Apple’s fourth straight year at the expo, but this marks COO Sabih Khan’s very first physical appearance. Stepping into the role last July, Khan has spent his whole Apple career knee-deep in supply chain operations. Every post-promotion trip to China has centered around “Apple supply chain,” and this Chain Expo visit? It’s just another platform for him to share where things stand.
Chatted with him on-site alongside other outlets, Khan literally told everyone to look around the booths. He pointed out that modern production lines are laser-focused on four things: obsessive attention to detail, razor-sharp tolerances, embedded AI tech, and sustainable manufacturing.

In his view, Apple and these Chinese partners aren’t just buyer and seller—they’re mutually fueling each other’s success. “1+1 easily beats 3 here.” With cutting-edge tooling, sharper tech, and suppliers going all-in, both sides can mass-produce premium goods that simply weren’t possible before.
Khan didn’t dodge the elephant in the room either—the impact of AI on factory jobs. “That’s the million-dollar question right now. In this AI era, everybody’s wondering: what happens to the workers?”
His take? AI is taking over the mundane, repetitive grunt work. Meanwhile, Apple has spent years rolling out training programs across its supply chain—covering robotics, coding, and more—that have touched over 10 million workers, actively steering them toward roles that demand actual creativity and problem-solving.
