Well, seven years since Metro exodus was launched in 2019. Yes, the Metro Awakening VR spin-off was a great one, and we got it recently, but VR is incredibly niche. The society has been dying of a decent, hardcore, single-player survival shooter on modern-gen consoles.
Should this latest rumor be true the drought is over.
Here is why people are actually serious about this particular leak rather than assuming that it is Twitter bait.
The origin of the Leak.
The hacker who leaks the information is called AlexanderNGamR. Most randomly-written Twitter accounts that say a huge AAA game is about to release are fake. However, it is this very user that leaked correctly that PlayStation was holding a State of Play on April 16th (which was later corroborated by Nate the Hate, one of the most credible leakers in the industry).
Alexandre has just announced that a new Metro title is officially announced next week. The timing is flawlessly aligned with that so-called State of Play presentation.
What The New Metro Actually Looks Like?
At this point the speculation becomes interesting. Artyom had a rather definite conclusion to his story told in Exodus.
Assuming that 4A Games is literally reviving the franchise, they may choose between two real options:
A Fresh Slate: Reboot a new trilogy, with an entirely different survivor in the Moscow tunnels.
A New Place: Just like in the case of Exodus, only go to a completely new post-nuclear country outside of Russia and find out how the rest of the world survived the nuclear apocalypse.
The Hardware Jump
The Metro games have continually challenged the PC and console hardware to the limits of breaking down. Exodus was among the first games to demonstrate how well Ray Tracing would look. And consider how their claustrophobic horror-oriented lighting engine will appear now that we are well into the PS5 and Xbox Series X generation. It will be horrific.
Expectations are to be kept under check, however, certainly monitor your schedule next week. Should there be the PlayStation State of Play, then most likely 4A Games will be present.
