We’ve finally crossed the line where science fiction meets reality. Meet the ultra-high-fidelity bionic robots that look exactly like us—down to the visible blood vessels, pores, and fingerprints.
On June 30th, NUPIAO officially launched the full-size “U World U1” series. The hype is real: online and offline pre-orders have already smashed through 13,361 units! The lineup comes in three flavors: the half-body U1 Lite at $16,800 (119,800 RMB), the high-spec full-body U1 Pro at $23,800 (169,800 RMB), and the star of the show—the fully dynamic U1 Ultra Male Edition priced at $137,000 (990,000 RMB) or the Female Edition at $121,000 (880,000 RMB).
So, what can these guys actually do? For consumers, they’re ready to be your daily companions, emotional support buddies, and social wingmen. On the business side, they’re stepping into elder care, psychological therapy, luxury concierge services, cultural exhibitions, and high-end housekeeping.
Zhou Jian, the founder and CEO of NUPIAO, made a massive announcement during the launch: since pre-orders opened on June 2nd, total orders have surpassed 13,000 units. To put that in perspective, that number is ten times higher than NUPIAO‘s entire industrial humanoid robot shipment volume for the whole year of 2025.

Let’s talk hardware. The U1 Pro boasts 88 degrees of freedom across its body, with 19 dedicated to facial movement alone. That means over 300 types of micro-expressions are possible. We’re talking about seeing actual pores, fingerprints, lip lines, and even blood vessels. The neck uses a dual-pivot four-bar linkage structure, and the lag between speech and lip movement is kept under 20 milliseconds. According to NUPIAO, this is the secret sauce to killing that creepy “uncanny valley” robot feeling.

On the software front, NUPIAO has packed the U1 with an “Emotion Large Model.” It claims to spot over 20 subtle emotional states with more than 90% accuracy. Plus, it runs on the Agent Memory OS, which lets the robot interact proactively without needing a wake-up word. Basically, it’s learning to read the room. Imagine coming home after a grueling overtime shift; the robot spots your exhaustion via vision, then gently asks if you want the AC lowered or some chill music played.
Companion robots aren’t new, but making one that’s full-size, hyper-bionic, and mass-producible? That’s a first for NUPIAO. Tan Min, General Manager of U World, told us that their real edge lies in their emotional AI, their bionic manufacturing process, and their ecosystem. He admitted that the manufacturing process is the hardest part to copy. With 14 years of experience in humanoid robotics and having cracked the code on mass-producing industrial bots in 2025, NUPIAO is now applying those lessons to make bionic bots a reality.
But here’s the catch: building a hyper-bionic companion is way harder than building an industrial worker bot. Jiao Jichao, Head of NUPIAO‘s Research Institute, explained that the head is the toughest nut to crack. The head unit alone contains 2,000 to 3,000 parts, accounting for over 60% of the robot’s total components. Shrinking all that tech down to fit inside a human-sized skull while managing heat and structure? There were almost no precedents for this before.
Plus, there’s a physics problem: mechanical joints move differently than silicone skin. Old-school control algorithms often made movements look jerky and unnatural. NUPIAO had to build its own systems and algorithms to fix this. “We only recently figured out how to scale this production,” Zhou Jian noted. “The process is incredibly strict and strictly confidential.”
This engineering nightmare is exactly why the U1 series costs so much, and it also makes delivery the biggest hurdle right now. Zhou Jian promised that NUPIAO will do everything humanly possible to deliver every single order placed this year.
In recent years, most AI companies focused on factories as their main landing spot. But factory work has limits. Zhou believes industrial robots will eventually become a commodity—moving boxes and screwing bolts is pretty much the same solution for everyone. The hardware value and long-tail ecosystem there are limited. Family life, however, offers a much bigger long-term prize.
To him, apps like ChatBots have their limits when it comes to emotional value. A multi-modal humanoid robot that can interact proactively offers a deeper level of companionship. Tan Min added that there’s a massive hunger for long-term emotional comfort among singles, empty-nesters, and families who have lost children. This is where bionic robots truly shine.
When asked about the industry’s “iPhone moment” for embodied AI, Zhou was surprisingly cautious. He thinks real explosion depends on deep integration of hardware, software, content, and services. If we just treat robots as tools for “getting things done,” industrial scaling could happen in a year or two. But for homes, adoption will start with specific niche groups.
For instance, creating a robot with the original voice and long-term memory of a lost loved one for grieving families using 3D face modeling and voice reconstruction would be a massive application breakthrough for them.
And for otome game fans? If NUPIAO can replicate a character’s look perfectly and pair it with their original voice, that’s basically the iPhone moment for gaming too. Zhou revealed that several game studios are already reaching out to collaborate.

The ultimate goal? Taking over the interaction hub of the home. NUPIAO‘s logic is simple: once a robot builds trust through proactive interaction, the business potential explodes. Think local services, digital content consumption, and even targeted ad ecosystems. The ceiling for this is way higher than industrial equipment.
Of course, as robots walk into our living rooms, privacy and ethics become unavoidable challenges. NUPIAO‘s strategy? Process user data locally whenever possible—no cloud unless absolutely necessary. Users get full rights to view, export, and delete their data. On launch day, they even set up a legal committee and a three-tier review mechanism to ensure compliance and transparency before regulations even catch up.
The journey toward the ultimate robotic companion has just begun.
