Through our tracking at NUPIAO, on June 15, China’s National Copyright Administration officially stamped the software copyright for miHoYo’s “City of Rain & Fog (V0.1)”. The studio has officially pitched this project as a narrative-heavy, realistically styled UE5 urban open-world experience.

Originally teased under the working title “Varsapura,” this title has officially locked in its Chinese name: City of Rain & Fog. With Cai Haoyu taking the helm as lead producer and coordinated efforts across Shanghai, Singapore, Los Angeles, and Montreal, it’s rapidly becoming miHoYo’s most heavily backed new IP since Genshin Impact. Honestly, you can tell they’re going all-in.
The game’s very first public reveal happened back in November 2025. That 31-minute real-time gameplay demo absolutely exploded on Bilibili, grabbing over five million views in no time. Thanks to the lifelike wet-street reflections, cinematic camera work, and that moody, suspenseful backdrop, players were genuinely left speechless. Comments were flooded with things like, “Why are you dropping actual gameplay straight out of the box?” It really sets a new standard for developer transparency.
Fast forward to January 2026, and miHoYo started sliding in multiple trademark filings to seal the deal on the official name. The choice of “Rain” and “Fog” isn’t just aesthetic—it perfectly captures the core mood: a damp, bustling cityscape swallowed by an eerie, fog-laced unknown. This builds on earlier groundwork like securing rights for the track “MiRRoR”. Now that the software copyright is officially greenlit, we’ve officially crossed into the legal protection stage. The foundation is set, and the finish line is in sight.
