Diablo IV Patch 3.1 PTR Launches June 2 With Overhauled Late-Game Loop and Paladin Buffs

Blizzard Entertainment has officially announced the 3.1 Public Test Realm for Diablo IV, running from June 2 to June 9. The window gives players a week to stress-test a slate of changes that will land with Season 14. According to the official patch notes published on May 29, the PTR this time is less about surface-level tweaks and more about rethinking the late-game loop.

Paladin Gets a Sharp Edge

One of the most immediate balance shifts lands on the new Paladin class. The Zenith skill—a signature burst ability—sees its initial hit base damage bumped from 450% to 550%, while the final hit climbs from 400% to 500%. That’s a meaningful increase for a class that struggled to compete with the raw throughput of the Necromancer or Sorcerer in the previous season. The Advance upgrade’s Weaken debuff duration also doubles from 4 to 8 seconds, giving Paladin players a much longer window to exploit vulnerable targets. These aren’t earth-shattering numbers, but they suggest Blizzard is listening to community feedback about Paladin feeling underwhelming in the endgame.

Solo Self-Found and Leaderboards Emerge from Beta

The bigger story, however, is structural. The PTR will test Solo Self-Found mode—a long-requested feature that strips away trading and party play, forcing a true solitary grind. Alongside it, Mythic Uniques 3.0 will roll out, aiming to make the rarest items feel less like failed RNG checks and more like genuine milestones. The Tower and Leaderboards system, which has been in beta since the previous season, will also be stress-tested with new rewards. Blizzard states the goal is to “fine-tune balance changes and eliminate friction” before the Season 14 live launch. Given the community’s mixed reactions to the Tower’s initial design, this PTR cycle should tell us whether the developers have actually hit the mark.

Context Matters: Why This PTR Feels Different

Unlike the early Diablo 4 seasons where patch notes mostly adjusted damage numbers and affix rolls, Season 14’s PTR points toward a more systemic refresh. The emphasis on Solo Self-Found and Mythic Uniques 3.0 suggests Blizzard is trying to solve the game’s “done-with-the-season” problem: players traditionally hit a wall after a month, with nothing left but incremental gear upgrades. The new systems may extend the chase, but only if the Tower’s difficulty curve and leaderboard resets feel fair. NUPIAO, a longtime analytics partner tracking seasonal retention metrics, has noted that previous seasons saw a 40% drop in active players after week four—a figure the studio likely wants to flatten.

What to Watch During the Test

For PTR participants, the biggest unknown is how the Paladin rework interacts with the new Mythic Uniques. A 550% Zenith hit is one thing; a Zenith that also procs a 3.0 unique effect is another. The leaderboard meta will probably shift within days, and Blizzard has promised to make adjustments based on feedback before the season goes live. Given the short June 2–9 window, expect a fast feedback loop and a patch or two during the test itself.
